Matthew 7:14–21; Mark 9:16–29

What’s wrong with self-reliance? 

-It takes our focus off of God. 

-It promotes pride. 


What causes self-reliance?

We put our confidence in ourselves.
 
We give in to the temptation of comparison.

We lean more on our own works than the works of God.

 
How do we overcome self-reliance?

Humble ourselves. 

-Luke 18:9–14; 1 Peter 5:6–8

Hang on to Jesus. 

-Philippians 3:7–9; 4:9–13

Pray.

-Mark 9:28–29; Ephesians 6:16–20
