About Us

The East Shelby Church of Christ is comprised of many Christians who in the 80's and 90's described themselves as the Burlington church of Christ. We used to meet on South Germantown Rd, near the Burlington Residential subdivision in Memphis,TN. With attendance reaching 300, we were at our building's capacity. We're now meeting at our new building in Collierville,TN just outside of Memphis on Shelby drive.

Recent history of many in our number begins on the second Sunday in April 1980, when 40-50 Christians began worshiping in the old Germantown city hall at the corner of Poplar Pike and Germantown Rd. With this temporary meeting place, the congregation was known as the Poplar Pike church of Christ. Within three years, a permanent meeting place was built at South Germantown Rd. On January 23, 1983, we began meeting as the Burlington church of Christ

We credit our growth to the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and we give God the glory.

The Local Body

There is no earthly organization of that universal kingdom to which all the saved of all time are added. But yet we read in the New Testament of a local body, the local church. It is organized with elders overseeing the flock and deacons assisting in the duties. Each local church is independent of another and no work of one congregation was ever under the oversight of any one else from another congregation. You may see this by examining scriptures and reading of the organization of the church that Jesus built (Titus 1:5-9, 1 Timothy 3:8-13).

In the New Testament, local congregations were generically described by location (1 Corinthians 1:2; Romans 16:1). We describe ourselves as the East Shelby Church of Christ. We assemble in Southeast Shelby County, in Collierville,TN, just outside of Memphis on East Shelby Drive. When you visit us, you will find us to be a diverse group of people united by our love of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his example that we learn to love one another (John 13:34-35; 1 John 3:23). You will be warmly welcomed when you visit and worship God with us. Bring a friend, bring a bible, or just bring yourself and you'll find them both right here waiting for you.
