Catching Stones
1 Peter 4:12–13 Four Flaws of Negative Criticism: It always comes when we least need it. It comes when we least deserve it. It comes from those least qualified to give it. It comes in ways that often are not helpful. Relentlessly Criticized: Paul Acts 13:45; 14:1–6, 19; 16:19; 17:4–5, 13–14, 32; 19:8–9, 25–27 Even Barnabas criticizes Paul (Acts 15:37–39). Paul ends his third journey by being arrested in the temple and criticized by the Jews (Acts 22:27–36). Paul’s criticism then occurs before Felix, Festus, and Agrippa. Handling Relentless Criticism: Don’t get caught up in your emotions. Focus on the facts. Hold fast to the truth. Consider the source. Do not surrender. Do not become impatient or bitter. Stand on the promises of God.
